Ottawa Circuit Forum meeting: The Spring meeting of the Ottawa Circuit Forum will be held on Saturday, May 11th at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Petawawa. The Guest Speaker will be Rev. National March for Life: The National March for Life on Parliament Hill is scheduled for May 9th, 2024. As usual, Lutherans for Life – Canada will be participating in the march. An Ascension Day service will be held at Christ Risen Lutheran Church at 10:00 am followed by refreshments and snacks prior to proceeding to Parliament Hill. [April 2024]

 

Spring clean-up day: Members of the congregation are invited to a spring clean-up of the church parking lot and grounds on Sunday, April 28th following the Sunday worship service. Please arrive with a change of clothes (if you wish) as well as a rake and other tools. Snacks and refreshments will be available following the service and prior to the cleaning-up activities. Yard waste bags will be supplied. [April 2024]

 

Congregational voters meeting: This Spring’s congregational voters meeting will be held on Sunday, March 24th. Please plan on staying at church following the Palm Sunday worship service. Snacks and refreshments will be served. [February 2024]

 

Estate planning presentation: Mr. James Krestick, Gift Coordinator with Lutheran Foundation Canada, will give a presentation about estate planning on January 28th following the Sunday worship service. The presentation will be approximately one hour in length. Snacks and refreshments will be served. [January 2024]

 

Pot-luck lunch: Members of the congregation are invited to a pot-luck lunch following the worship service on Sunday, November 12th at 12:00 pm. If you’d like to volunteer to bring either a vegetable or meat dish, casserole, salad, dessert, or buns, please see the sign-up sheet on the table by the coffee station in the Fellowship Hall. A free will offering will be collected for Edgar and Monica from Tanzania. [October 2023]

Ottawa Circuit Forum meeting: The Fall meeting of the Ottawa Circuit Forum will be held on Saturday, October 21st at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ottawa. Activities begin at 9:30 am with coffee and fellowship. The Guest Speaker for this event is Rev. Dr. David Somers, LCC Missionary-at-Large to francophones, who will give a talk about the LCC’s recent Mission and outreach in Quebec and the French-speaking world. Thanksgiving food drive for the Kanata Food Cupboard: Christ Risen is participating in a food drive with several Kanata-based churches. Please come to the church on Saturday, September 23th at 2:00 am to help distribute food bags to homes on the streets around our church. On the following Saturday, September 30th at 2:00 pm, please help again by collecting those paper bags filled with food that were dropped off in your area and delivering them to the church and then the Kanata Food Cupboard. Members of our congregation wishing to make a donation can bring their filled food bags to church on Sunday, September 24th. Contact Cam McNeil for more details. [September 2023]

 

Installation of Pastor Lam: As the Sunday, September 10th date of Pastor Lam’s installation approaches, there is much preparation work to be done. This work will require the assistance and dedication of all members of the congregation working together. If you are able to volunteer, please consider doing so in order to make this event a great occasion for both Lutheranism in Ottawa and the Christ Risen congregation. [August 2023]

A presentation on the Lutheran School of Theology in Kenya: Rev. Dr. Ristau, who is presently deployed as academic dean to the Lutheran School of Theology in Kenya, will give a presentation about the school prior to conducting the Sunday worship service on May 21st. The presentation will begin at 9:30 am and last about 45 minutes. Coffee and muffins will be served. For more information about Rev. Ottawa Circuit Forum meeting: The Spring meeting of the Ottawa Circuit Forum will be held on Saturday, May 6th at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lockley/Pembroke. The guest speaker will be David Frieaen, Director of Advancement for LCC, who will give a presentation on the topic “Our Work Together as Lutheran Church-Canada and as Members of LCC.” See the agenda for this forthcoming meeting and minutes from last October’s meeting. A visit by Pastor Lam: A call was issued to Pastor Lam to serve as Pastor at Christ Risen Lutheran Church on Monday, February 13th, 2023.

On Wednesday, March 8th Pastor Lam met with members of the congregation. Pastor answered questions from members of the congregation and shared some information about his background and experiences in the ministry. He also spoke about his approach to music in the worship service and how to use the different Divine Service settings in the Lutheran Service Book to build a Sunday worship service. Members of the congregation were encouraged to speak with Pastor Lam and his family during the coffee time following the meeting.

Training session for the Church’s updated website: As part of the effort to update Christ Risen Lutheran Church’s website, Alex Steinke, Director of Communications for Lutheran Church-Canada, lead an online training session for members of the congregation on February 27th, 2023 at 7:00 pm.

The students learnt how to build and maintain a website using the content management system WordPress. The aim of Council is to have as many people as possible who can contribute content to this website in order to make it a valuable source of information about all the activities going on at Christ Risen. Laurentian District LWMLC Open Chat meeting: Any individuals wanting to participate in an Open Chat of the Laurentian District of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League-Canada (LWMLC), please call Rena Detlefsen at 1-514-812-8439 and ask for the link to the meeting.
